Linux Crashing

I never thought I'd see the day but my home Linux box is crashing almost
as frequently as my old Win 95 machine did.

I did an upgrade the other day; added a new, beefier power supply, and
an external usb hard drive. Also, upgraded from Slackware 10 to 12.1. Now,
it won't last the night. Every morning when I check it, it's locked up. I
notice that /proc/interrupts has *all* drives, ide and sata on the same
interupt .. this is not the case on my office machine. It will also crash
if I do a large file transfer although less predictably.

Prior to these changes the uptime was 209 days so the basic hardware is
probably ok.

Any ideas? Marginal power supply maybe? Something in Slackware 12.1?
