Ok, so I was helping a friend with a Nvidia Nforce4 NVraid (on a
WinXPPRoSP3 box but it should apply 'here' also) who had 2 identical
drives set up as Raid 0 striping (yes, he knew about no fault tolerance
but his thought was, well if I had 1 drive I wouldn't have any fault
tolerance either, so this is the same but with better performance). Now
he wants to upgrade to the latest Core 2, etc and take one of the drives
out of the other machine to use in his new machine, which will have raid
0+1 or 5, thereby downgrading the 'old' machine (still very useable) to
only 1 harddrive. I can't think of any way to do this other than to 1st
install a 3rd drive large enough to hold all the data from the striped
array, move all the data onto drive 3, remove drive 2 + 3, then re-setup
the motherboardwithout a raid at all and re-load windows/Kubuntu (he
wants to dual boot both machines now) from scratch. He had hoped he
could just un-raid and remove drive then add Kubuntu withouthaving to
start over. Any other thoughts?
