Fedora issues

I have a little cyrix based mini-itx computer that I am trying to run an
"embedded" application on. The cyrix computer comes up as a i586/i386.
This seems fine until I run the script to install the software packages
the system needs. Some of the rpms (Fedora 7 system) are marked as i686
for what ever reason these are seen by the script as incompatible with
the processor. When I manually install these packages they install
fine , however the DB that holds info for the application is not
updated.

So my question is :

Is there any way to modify the i586 value that comes up when you type
uname -a ,for instance. I am hoping this will fool the install and get
all my packages installed and configured automatically.
