What are you trying to accomplish? If smoothwall has a bridge mode (I
haven't look at it in ages) thats about the only way you'll be able to
install it on either side without changes to your network. Otherwise
you will have to make changes. On the outside you'd have to change
the vpn as you mentioned. On the inside you'd have to create another
subnet and have smoothwall relay the dhcp.
