I was, however, referring to the NETFILE .tax file format. (the file you
upload on CRAs website to submit your return.) It looks pretty parseable,
but entirely different from TurboTax's save format. I find it inexcusable
that our government does not provide a free way to electronically submit our
tax returns. Only "approved" applications are allowed to generate this .TAX
file. Quicktax has reduced the number of allowable returns to 2 this year.
(was 6 only a few years ago) I'm doing my taxes on paper this year for the
first time in a decade.

I have to agree, you should be able, if you wish, to scan your paper return
and send it digitized as a tiff file or similar open-source file to them via
net file. It might be that a .tax file is editable, like a spreadsheet
file. I could generate a fake return via quicktax for you if you wish or
even we could get together over my laptop and generate one together and you
can do the stupid questionaire and then we can save the file to usb key or
whatever for you. I still get several returns on my quicktax purchase
although I'm done with it. I forget how many are allowed with each license
but I only use one of the "over 25k" ones and used one "freebie" poor man
return, so there's at least one "rich guy" return available. Also, you have
till next Wednesday to finish netfile returns. I'm willing to make time for
you if you just want to file it using my installed quicktax and don't mind
my being around while you do it. We can toss out your return after for your
privacy or move the files to your media, etc.
Just let me know.
