If by Debian you mean Ubuntu I can help you out. The driver for RT2500 series worked in Ubuntu Feisty, but not in Gutsy. I should say at least the WPA portion of the driver wouldn't work. The iwpriv "set" command was giving me a whole lot of trouble. I ended up having to blacklist the built-in driver, and compile the rt2500 driver (or kernel module or whatever Linux calls them) from source. Worked wonderfully after that.

If you're using Ubuntu Feisty 7.10 I can give you exact instructions of what you need to do to get the card up and running with WPA security.
