Ubuntu 7.10 uses ntfs-3g by default to read/write to ntfs.
Previously (maybe 6.10?) they only included read support via the
kernel driver, although ntfs-3g was easily installed then as well.
There was some talk as to whether they wanted to switch to
Linux-NTFS's version, but I haven't heard anything on that front in a
while. They claim full support for 2000, xp, 2003 and vista.
