Well, we finally got it working .. after trying *four* computers and
*five* ethernet cards. I just gave up and took a machine that I knew was
working and popped an appropriate ethernet card in and brought it up and
began sharing data to the network. Still don't know why the others refused
to function.
I've seen screwy things happen before with Samba. There was one computer
once that refused to be accessible by its DNS name but could be got at
with its ip address. It could, however, be pinged using its DNS name. Go
figure.
