Re: ISP recommendations - reprise

Sorry, I was at the lake.

I configured my email server on shaw (without the DOCSIS) to route my
outbound email through the shaw server on port 25. Works like a hot
damn. Gotta read those shaw emails.

I have not found Sasktel blocking anything. Ever. I have two Statics
with Sasktel, SOHO package with Shaw.

Between the two of them I get more spam just being on Shaw but I find
that Shaw is faster. That zen.spamhause RBL really helped reducing the
incoming spam from Shaw. Many years ago I was tired of Shaw changing my
static IP. That went away. I have had the same IP from Shaw for a long
time now.

I am ecstatic in the service that I receive from both Shaw and Sasktel
and consider myself lucky for living in such a well connected city.

I have discovered that neither operation provides any kind of technical
support unless you call during business hours and get past the tier one
people. If I were to build a customer support network for my own ISP I
would probably do the same thing.

One funny story to end this rant. I run my own local dns just for
performance reasons and I had to shut down that server just for
maintenance reasons so I figured it would be good form to enter shaw's
dns server on my shaw system. So I call up shaw's technical support.
They gave me an IP address. I tested it it did not work. I called back
in case I was the problem. No, I had correctly recorded the incorrect
dns server. So I fired up a laptop, got a dhcp client to configure
it's network and wrote down the dns the dhcp had discovered. Voila.

Like I said - expect no support and you will not be disapointed.

p.s. MTS has been blocking port 25 for as long as I can recall.
