Do you happen to have FireFox open to a page with animated ads at the same
time? The Flash plugin seems to chew up memory if I leave it open on a
page with flash animations. After a few hours, the system starts swapping
(512MB RAM). Once I quite Firefox, the RAM is freed and the system returns
to normal.
I've also seen the metacity process chew up RAM but I haven't characterized
the exact cause yet.
