  ^ That is the speed of an XP 2500+ w/ 1gb RAM Slackware sending to an
Ubuntu server.

For some reason, Slackware on lesser hardware can send at a good clip
faster (a whole fast-ethernet 100Mbits faster plus change). The
Slackware machine has the 2.6.20 kernel vs. the 2.6.17 under Ubuntu.
