DPMS and Ubuntu.

In 6.06, DPMS worked as advertised. It'd switch off after a few
minutes if I wasn't using the PC, and things like MythTV and vlc/mplayer
could disable it while I watched movies and TV.
In 6.10, this stopped working. There was some bug that made it never
turn off. I applied the workarounds given on Ubuntu's forums, and it
kinda/sorta worked most of the time.
Now in 7.04, it's broken again. After a fresh boot, the monitor will
happily sit, turned on, slowly burning away the life of the backlight on
my LCD. If I run MythFE, mplayer, or vlc, the DPMS will sometimes kick
in after 5 minutes or so -- which is not what I want when I'm watching a
movie! If I use "xset dpms force off" -- it turns off the monitor, and
seems to get the system to start to power down the monitor after it's
idle -- but this applies regardless of whether or not I actually want it
(again, overriding myth/mplayer/vlc).

Is there some documentation on what package ended up broken? Is it
Xorg? Something in KDE? It's very frustrating, and I'm ready to start
editing source and posting diffs.
