For my CMPT 400 project, I used Ubuntu live CDs and the latest version
of LMbench ( http://www.bitmover.com/lmbench/ ).

I had a script that would apt-get install the dev tools, pull in
LMbench, configure + compile it with a set of arguments, and then run 10
iterations of the test. Then it'd scp the data off to a collector.

It worked well for me :)
