That is really really odd, because Compiz works fine under Feisty on my
7900GT.

Actually, I remember from the AGP days, that fast writes were considered
to be unstable on many motherboard+gfx card combinations under both
Windows and Linux, and so many drivers would just disable them
automatically to avoid problems. IIRC, this is a feature, not a bug. ;)
