Here is one thing you can do to see exactly what happens at boot, it might
help to find out what's going on.

When you first start your machine grub will come up and count down from two
or three before it boots, in this time it gives you the option to hit 'Esc'
Hit 'Esc' at this point and it will show you 5 boot options, there will be
two different kernels, then a (recover mode) for both those kernels and a
memtest boot option.
Highlight the very top option and hit the 'e' key to edit the boot options
for this kernel. It will then show you all the boot option lines for that
kernel.
Highlight the line that starts with "Kernel" and hit the 'e' key again to
edit that line.
Erase the "quiet splash" from the end and hit enter, now hit the 'b' key to
boot that kernel, and you will be able to see everything the system is doing
as it boots up.

Make note of anything that hangs for a bit, anything that may be retrying a
couple times to start, or anything that shows an error.

Let us know if you find anything this way.
