That's extremely interesting, in that it's nearly opposite of what I
would have expected. Texas, the state famous for doing things big, as
well as being oil-rich, and fairly right-leaning, fares quite well at
7th out of 48, while California, famous for conservation and
environmentalism, ranks 36th out of 48.
In fact, the map correlates fairly well with the 2004 election results
-- with the Republican states being the "green" ones. (with the
exception of Illinois, who voted Democrat and rank #9 for CFLs.)
