Regarding nuclear power plants, I think safety considerations are the
wrong thing to argue about. Using up a non-renewable resource, whether
it is uranium or petroleum or coal is equivalent to "spending your
captial." If we burn it up, it's gone and can't be used for fertilizer
or other synthetics. Don't forget, the value of all those dollars
floating around must ultimately rest on something more tangible than
just the volume of financial transactions. Coal, oil, or uranium in the
ground is still a resource, and can underpin the value of a currency
just as much as a pile of gold can.
