Perhaps I'm just a sucker for these things but I bought a compost bin through
one of the city initiatives. I've faithfully used it for the past 2 or 3
years and encouraged others to do the same.

Although I didn't go and get any free bulbs it was a reminder to me that I
should get off my butt and finish swapping CFLs for incandescents. I went
and bought enough bulbs this weekend to go from about 30%CFL to 80%CFL in my
house. I probably won't swap the rest for the reasons mentioned on the list.

I have no idea what the "success" rate of initiatives like this are but they
are certainly not useless.
