Well, the sound was fixed by turning off digital output on my soundcard
(I guess the debian upgrade system decided that my mixer config was
incorrect).
The mouse wheel thing seems like it's a mis-mapping of the buttons (in
apps, the horizontal scroll bar will go when I move the mouse wheel). I
don't know why this is since I can't see anything wrong in the X11 conf.
