As Mike already noted, incandescents still have their place, and I would
hate for the government to tell me what kind of bulbs to use.
Incandescents emit a broad spectrum of light. Fluorescents, although
their color temp has improved over the years, still emit a highly
unnatural light with a few spikes at specific frequencies that fool our
eyes into thinking it's white. Perhaps it's my red-green deficiency,
but I vastly prefer the "feel/look" of incandescents. I'm not sure how
to explain it, but I have a much easier time relaxing under incandescent
light than florescent. That said, i agree it's economically and
environmentally appropriate to use CFLs wherever possible.

As an interesting aside, on my recent trip to Mexico I noticed that
virtually all screw-in-type bulbs were CFLs. (Even the candle-style
bulbs in the chandeliers) I guess when the country's electrical
infrastructure is lacking, it is even more important.

Perhaps it's not always ignorance, but a conscious choice for reasons
you are ignorant of. ;-)
