Ok, so my original suspicions are probably correct for dumb switches
then, that you'll need a smart host in between 100 and 1000mbit
segments. However, it's probably cheaper to buy a $300 netgear managed
gigabit switch or something than building a router to put between
segments, and it'll certainly be better on power consumption. ;)
