setting up mythtv

I thought I might try to setup mythtv, but I'm already stuck. I'm on a
Mandriva Free 2007 setup and I've installed all the rpm required. Mysqld
is running. The instruction at
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.pdf tell you run the following
command: msyql -u root < mc.sql . I get an error response. ' no mc.sql'.

I did however create a mythconverg database.

When I run /usr/bin/mythtv-setup I get a huge string of errors,
beginning with
Database error was:
Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (111)

QSqlQuery::exec: database not open
QSqlQuery::exec: database not open
2007-03-13 19:30:06.775 DB Error (KickDatabase):
Query was:
SELECT NULL;
No error type from QSqlError? Strange...

Does anyone have any idea why I mythtv can't connect to the database?

It's been a long time since I messed with mysql and I'm not remembering
most of what I once knew.
