Greetings Dylan and fellow Saskatoon LUG'ers

Thought I better send this email now rather than later before rumors and the
paparazzi hit town.

I apologize for not sending out this notice to everyone a little sooner.

As a few of the SLUG'ers will recall, I attended a SLUG meeting a few months
ago and informed the group of our intentions to form a Linux User Group at
the University of Saskatchewan. I highlighted that our focus would be
different than SLUG's. There were no objections.

Our intentions are certainly NOT to challenge the SLUG. This is a University
related effort.

We have a particular interest in promoting, supporting and educating campus
community members of the benefits of GNU/Linux and Open Source. Since there
is potential for this initiative to be supported by ITS, we are having to
keep the focus specifically on the University. We certainly hope for a wider
spread adoption or at least consideration of Open Source alternatives to
costly corporate solutions that are currently used on campus and currently
there is limited support for wide spread adoption of GNU/Linux as an
alternative OS.

Thank you for your concern. Please rest assured that this is not a
competition, but certainly an opportunity to continue the efforts of
advocating a superior operating system and a philosophy that should have
been adopted more rapidly than it has been.

Although I am not very active in the SLUG community, I certainly relish the
idea that there continues to be a peer group who believe in their efforts
and that support each other in learning and growing. You guys do a fantastic
job for the community and I truly believe that together we can have a
significant impact on the success of spreading the word that is Linux and
Open Source.

Good Day to you all.
Kind Regards,
Tanieth Dale
