OCR again.

I've just had experience last night with ocrad, gocr, and kooka. Clara
downloads and appears quite nicely, and even has an html tutorial
included in its docs, but no intuitive sort of workings, so I haven't
made any use of it yet.

Kooka is a disappointment; it insists on using ocrad, which has great
difficulties with the piece I'm working on. My best luck has been with
gocr, which does quite well on the ordinary English in Times new Roman.
None of them, however, can do anything useful with the stuff written in
italics.

This is with the possible exception of Clara, which I haven't had time
to test yet.

Does anyone know if Clara will do any better with italics, or am I
wasting my time?

Next question is, is there any free Open source Linux OCR software that
will do a better job of rendering italics (not necessarily into italics,
just into readable text?)
