I'm happy with my Core2Duo Dell Inspiron 6400. No dead pixels, keyboard
and touchpad work great. Windows XP doesn't even crash, I've only rebooted
twice since getting it 2.5 months ago.
My only complaints are:
- the color on the display is less true than my Sharp LCD or Viewsonic G790
CRT but that's typical of most LCD's I've seen.
- the onboard sound is crap, I've yet to see any onboard sound device that
isn't crap. The Onboard speakers don't have enough bass but still have
enough power to be useful.
- the hinge on the lid is pretty loose, not a problem at the moment but I
can see it being a problem in a year or so if it loosens up more.
- The touchpad is offset about 1" left of centre, I commonly end up hitting
the right button instead of the left.
- DVD burner is tray load, I prefer slot load, but they tray seems sturdier
that other slimline tray load CD/DVD drives.
Plusses:
- High-res display is nice and crisp, ATI video is a good upgrade from the
standard Intel option.
- I have a 30 minute walk to and from work and the cold hasn't affected it,
I'm sure cold solder joints would have shown up by now.
- Battery life is great, up to 4 hours if it's not doing much, at a good 2
hours making it do lots of work.
- Cooking seems good, CPU and vents are positioned for good airflow.
- Keyboard is compfortable for me to type properly (I dislike the MacBook
keyboard).
So far I haven't had to experience Dell's tech support. Everything has
Just Worked(tm)! Kind like Mac fanboys keep blabbering about.
