You may have better luck looking for Linux mapping software. Generally
people talk about GPS software as the lower level stuff, and mapping
software as a higher level interface to the data gathered from the GPS
software.
That being said, check out GPSDrive:
It's the one that gets ported to PDAs and other devices a lot, so
presumably it has a reasonably large user base and is reasonably functional.
