Clicking on the icon and selecting "Static configuration..." in Feisty
simply runs network-admin (Network Settings)
What I found works on my (non-static) system is to go into the
properties (for both wireless and wired connections) and be sure
"Enable roaming mode" is checked which, if the suggestion in
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2006-December/msg00026.html
was adopted, means "it deconfigures the [...] interface and lets NM do
its job" :)
So then to manually specify static IPs in Feisty, would you just
uncheck "Enable roaming mode" and set the "Configuration" to "Static
IP address"? (and then fill in the associated fields)
