Oh! Hey Jim, if you just want nice images, don't use pdftohtml, use
pdftoppm, e.g.:

pdftoppm -f 1 -l 2 y.pdf nameprefix

(nameprefix will be tacked onto all the files, but needs to be there it seems)

The default files produced are large (~6 MB per page in a test I ran).
 If that's too big, try playing with the options.
