I definitely do the "survivalist thing". The only supplies that I do
not have a weeks worth of are my wife's cigarettes and milk for the
kids. (I do have powdered milk for bread making, but it would take a
while before the almost 3 year old and 4 and a half year old got used to
it.) That includes a wood stove for backup heat, and a 6.5K watt
generator with a weeks worth of fuel to keep the essentials like
computers, freezers and satellite TV running.
Took a walk down the driveway (about 600 meters) about an hour ago, and
once I got past the hedge, the visibility was less than 5 meters at
times, with snow drifts that are 2 to 3 feet deep. I won't be going
anywhere soon.
