Here's a site that I've used a few times, they have an archive of both
official and 'unofficial' (slightly modified, usually for booktype and
bitsetting purposes) firmwares for a wide variety of drives.

http://tdb.rpc1.org/

I can vouch for the legitimacy of the firmwares offered, or at least
for the Pioneer 111D and 111L firmware, as I had used both of them
over the weekend.

Most are packaged with simple windows or command prompt flash tools,
just click and run (from windows).

As for finding out the specific model of the drive, the drive details
on boot will typically indicate it as part of the string shown.
Alternately check the device properties under windows.
