Can't speak to the init question, but I'm with you on the leatherman.
Very cool, looks neat, and I never actually use it for anything.

If only this were a joke. Ubuntu has tried this trick twice in the last
month or two, the latest TODAY. And if you weren't watching when it did
the updates, it doesn't inform you of why. If they are looking for ways
to drive people away, this would be one. Grrrr.
