Ok, but I'm a big fan of power supplies like Enermax ones. I pay
between $80 and $120 for them, and have never had them fail (plus they
tend to be quiter).

If I were to use that system as my desktop, I'd need more HD, RAM. The
video card thing is a toss up; under Linux, I find video cards tend not
to matter if they are supported (meaning buy nVidia). Under an OS like
MacOS that actually uses the card for things like Quartz Extreme, it
becomes a lot more important to have a decent chip behind it. I think
Vista will drive this a bit, too, assuming people drink the koolaid (and
they will, because it'll be bundled with new computers).

I also could live without an optical drive, prefering a real Intel gigE
nic instead of integrated stuff, and probably getting a real soundcard
(very few integrated sound chips seem to be shielded enough to stop me
hearing bus traffic).

I'm willing to acknowledge I'm not like most people in the computer
needs/use department, though :)
