As a point of reference, this summer I bought a NEW laptop for $600
after rebate. ($698 with $100 rebate. Yes, I got the rebate cheque.)
It is a Celeron M chip, has 512MB Ram, wireless/fax/network/Win XP,
PCMCIA, 4 USB2, Firewire, S-video out, SD slot, DVD Burner, and an 80GB
hard drive. Did i mention it was new... with a warranty?

I'm convinced that used laptops in that price range are really not worth
it. I've seen too many repair bills on out-of-warranty laptops. I
don't think any of them (the repairs, that is) were under $600.
