I've managed to get past the "nothing works" step.
1) Edgy Eft
2) Get lirc 0.81-pre2
3) Compile lirc.
4) depmod -a; modprobe lirc_i2c

Now you should have it working like I have it work. At first I thought
it wasn't working, but then I went and borrowed Scott's remote and found
it was working. I trained my remote off of it and verified I can get
keypresses to it via mode2.

The next step is figuring out how to get that to MythTV or something
else (inputlirc?), since this only takes care of the driver issue.

The 0.80 is broken and won't work; I don't know why Edgy uses it.
