Apt/synaptic etc. are wonderful things, but for certain software I think
there are times you need to go with the latest source. In my view mythtv
is one of those things - it's awesome and already works great, but I
think there's a reason it's labelled so far from 1.0. So much
changes/fixed/added between releases, go with the newest, if you can.
Having said that, if I look at my own path, I'll often try the easy
route with apt-get, and if it doesn't just work all peachy, that's when
it's time to dig in and do it the "old way".
