Ubuntu desktop or server

Here's a question for all you ubuntu zealots^H^H^H^H^H^H^H wizards (with
a little nod to the days of BBSs).
It's time for a new hard drive, and that's when I usually take the
opportunity to install a brand new distro. My current kubuntu has been
customized beyond recognition, and I'm ready to start fresh.

I want a full desktop install, and I also want numerous of the features
of the server install (eg LAMP). I know about synaptic and am
comfortable with apt at the commandline, thus I know you can easily
install whatever you need, but I'm curious if anyone knows if it will be
less work to install the desktop version and add the server stuff or
vice versa.

Your thoughts, even better your experiences, greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
        Les...
