Well the first two (an old machine, a brand new machine) sets of
hardware had the same symptoms.

For fun (well actually because I have to get this working) I tried a
third set of hardware, its aged splited the difference of the first
two. Same CF card and ATA adapter.

I guess third time is a charm, because I'm past the partitioner and
its downloading files from the ftp site.

Really really odd.
