I'd agree. I can't think of anything in the details of the filesystem
formats that would make a difference or have a different sensitivity to
hardware failures.

I have found a running linux system is a little more forgiving of disc
errors than OpenBSD but it still (normally) logs them.

It's strange why it's not working. CF should look like a disc and I've
never had a problem installing on disc except when I tried on a system with
small memory (4MB) which had to be upgraded.
