Greetings!

I am having problems with getting a Gentoo install to function. I am
using the Gentoo "livecd-X86-2006.0" iso, which I download from two
different sites, and both ISO's compare as identical.

The machine is a Dell PowerEdge 750, single Xeon Pentium 4 at 2.8GHz,
256M RAM, 250G Sata HD, no floppy, USB DVD -RW.

During the CD boot process, the install kernel loads, loads drivers for
sata, and then gives the following messages:

Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/sda
No bootable medium found. Waiting for new devices...
Cound not find CD to boot. something else is needed!

It then loads the keymap, and then gives the following messages:

Determining root device...
The root block device is unspecified or not detected.
Please specify a device to boot, or "shell" for a shell.
boot() ::

I have tried doscsi, dodevfs as kenal options, but other than a
different list of drivers, get basically the same results.

How do I get the install kernel to load a USB driver for the external
DVD drive?
