Linux install

Hey Guys

been out of the loop for a while. Getting back on the band wagon. I
understand that this is kinda like asking the meaning of life... but
here goes

what is the opinion of this group on ubuntu / kbuntu over the more
traditional installs??

I am faced with a 'yet again' messed up windows install. I can rdp to
my work pc for the stuff I can't get in linux.
