I suggest you uninstall it and reinstall it without sudo ;) I did not use
sudo to install it and it worked just fine :)

It installed (the default settings) to ~/google-earth/ with its cache in
~/.googleearth/

Eventually there should be a DEB.

It runs fast on your system because you already installed the drivers for
your video card instead of the generic ones that come with Ubuntu ;)
