Regarding Adobe's (formerly Macromedia's) Flash and Shockwave...
Linux users are stuck with version 7 of the former (8 is out for
Windows/Mac and 9, while promised for Linux too, won't be out until
next year...) and no version of the latter. However it is possible to
view files for such in Linux... with Wine:
1. Install Wine; http://www.winehq.com/site/download
2. Download Firefox for Windows (it uses its own profile, so won't
interfere with a Linux installation) and install it with Wine.
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
or even use the Windows "Bon Echo" (FF2) alpha 3:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/bonecho/alpha3/win32/en-US/Bon%20Echo%20Setup%20Alpha%203.exe
3. Download Flash 8 and Shockwave for ("Netscape" for) Windows and
install it with Wine.

You should now be able to view said files with the Win(e)dows Firefox :)
Apparently Crossover Office will let you use a Windows plugin with the
Linux version of the browser, but that costs $
