Yup. The short version of the story is I wanted to record onto Myth
from a VCR. I started searching the archives for that and came across a
guy two years ago asking how he could record from a non-channel source
into his composite inputs. He was given instructions how to hook up a
satellite decoder. (which, you might notice, still has "channels") He
then put it more clearly -- he just wanted to be able to record from his
camcorder onto Myth. I don't recall the exact answer, but it was
something like "why would you want to do that?" Over the next few
messages that user became frustrated with the developers and finally
disappeared.

My solution? (I think thanks goes to Glenn for this... can't remember
for sure) On DataDirect, I "subscribed" to channel 432, Galaxy Music
Ambient Somesuch, which has "shows" that are 8 hours long. I connected
that channel to the composite inputs. Now, if I try to record channel
432, it records from my composite input. I just have to be careful not
to start near the end of a "show." (Myth will stop recording at the end
of the show.) There is something to be said about pushing play on one
machine, and record and play on the other. (although, i seem to recall
trying to explain to my mom, years ago, why she needed to push record
_and_ play, when she was only trying to record ... not play.)
