Are you using "discover" to load modules on boot? If not, I would
highly recommend installing it and letting it handle module loading for
you. Discover has a number of config files in which you can specify
modules to always load, and modules to never load.

The other option to _really_ make sure it gets loaded early, is to put
it in an initrd, although that should be completely unneccesary unless
you want to boot from the raid.
