I should mention some of the nicer features of Ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install libgtk1.2 -- wow, now I can run Mozilla again!
The Debian package management system is really nice.
Like any other Linux, once I mounted /home and logged into KDE, it was
exactly as I'd left it! Separation of system and home-directory makes
it easy to change the entire system without losing a byte of data
(although KDE started to act a little weird, showing the "old" default
menu before my home directory menu asserted itself).
Everything has proper true-type font support now (I assume it was
working someway under Slackware, but I never really got it working).
Somethings have been downgraded (Xorg 6.9 -> 6.8.2; KDE 3.5.1 -> 3.4.3).
Dapper Drake should address this once it's released in a month
(Slackware 10.2 is, naturally, newer than Breezy Badger 5.10). It'll be
easier to upgrade with Synaptic, yay!
Setting up nVidia was as easy as under Slackware -- except that the part
where I have to fight with nvidia.com (which does not like ECN) is taken
away because the Ubuntu repos have the nVidia binaries ready to go via apt!
Once I get VMWare and Cedega going again, we'll really be cooking with
gas :D
