I had the same problem - I found out I needed the following in my
conf.modules to get PPP working properly with Linux 2.2:
alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate
I hope this helps - though the numbers you give (except 24) don't match
mine.
