My strange sound problem is solved. WooHoo !!

Thanks to all of you that offered suggestions on improving my Linux sound
quality. The problem is now solved.

All that annoying sound heard during disk/mouse/etc/ activity was due to a
short cable connecting my sound card to my motherboard. I had disconnected my
case speaker in favor of channeling my "beeps" through my soundcard. Well I
guess it was just a bad idea. The card has pins for this sort of thing, but, oh
well...

My thanks go to Tim (a friend at work) for finding this out.

It still does seem strange that MS-DOS was free of this annoying buzzing
while Linux experienced it. I wonder why.
